FH5K Late Registration Times, Dates
Late registration for the Forest Hills 5K will be held: during packet pick-up at Nagel Middle school from 3:00 to 5:30 p.m. Thursday, May 17; during packet pick-up at Nagel Middle School from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. Friday, May 18; and 7 to 8 a.m. Saturday, May 19 (RACE DAY).

AHS Relay Team Breaks FAVC Record
Congratulations to Anderson’s 4 x 800 relay team of Casey Gallagher, Kameron Powell, Sean Batt, and Nick Vogele on setting a new FAVC record by 5 seconds at the FAVC Championship Meet in Loveland. Their school record 7:54 currently ranks 42nd in the USA.

Nick Vogele FAVC MVP 2012
Congratulations to AHS Senior Nick Vogele on his two new FAVC records – one each in the 1600 (4:17.5) and the 3200 (9:25.8). As of this moment, Nick’s best 3200 (9:01) ranks him 26th in the USA and his 1600 (4:12) ranks him 38th. He was voted MVP for this year’s meet.

Summit Marathoners Finish Pig
Summit's small but mighty band of marathoners braved the humidity, crowds, and threatening weather to run the Final Mile of their year-long training program with their teachers on Saturday, May 5th. This was part of the Flying Pig Kids Marathon 26th Mile. As the students trained, they tracked miles and health in their Hog Log. Next up for the Summit marathoners - the Forest Hills 5k at 8:30 a.m. Saturday, May 19.

Sherwood Students Enjoy Hero Breakfast
A group of Sherwood Elementary School students recently gathered prior to the school day to enjoy a Hero Breakfast and to hear former Olympic marathon runner Julie Isphording. The breakfast was in celebration of the Fuel Up to Play 60 program that Sherwood participated in this year. THS, NMS Students Enjoy Hope and Possibility 5K
After more than a month of training, and a carb loading pasta pig party the night prior, students from Turpin High School and Nagel Middle School joined together to take part in the annual Hope and Possibility 5K Race (part of the Flying Pig Marathon). Spartans Commit to College Sports
Sixteen Spartan athletes recently signed their letter of intent to play sports in college. A total of 26 Spartan athletes from the class of 2012 have committed to playing college level sports. Athletic Director Tony Hemmelgarn said that he believes this to be the largest number of athletes from one class at Turpin to make it to college level sports.

Cleanse, Repel, Survive
Anderson High School’s Zombie Soap cleaned up at the 9th annual Chemistry Soap Convention on April 26th. The Zombie Soap team won based on their soap product, knowledge of soap chemistry and marketing at the convention. Pictured here are our Zombies in action! The idea behind zombie soap is simple – “When facing a hoard of zombies, you need all the help you can get! You need Z Soap!”

Anderson Playwright Wins National Competition
The AHS senior whose play Robin Hood: A Monk’s Tale was performed by Anderson Theatre in February has now garnered national attention for her writing skill. Beth Seeley submitted her one-act play, Shelf Life, to the 2012 Thespian Playworks Competition, and has been named one of their four winning finalists.

Canine Pal Inspires Love of Reading
With a sparkle in her eyes and a spring in her step, Maggie is ready to greet her friends at Wilson Elementary School. One of the stops on a recent Friday visit was to the school's Resource Room where the popular pooch sat with and enjoyed some reading time with a group of students. Then, looking quite pleased with her accomplishments, Maggie was ready for her next assignment. In a different classroom, the perky pup and a few of her friends enjoyed one-on-one reading sessions.

AHS 4x800 Relay Team Breaks School Record
The 4X800 relay team of Casey Gallagher (2:01), Kameron Powell (1:59), Sean Batt (1:59), and Nick Vogele (1:53) set a new school record on April 26, 2012, at the Anderson Invitational with a time of 7:54.4. The old school record was set in 1984 at 7:58.5. This year’s relay team also set a meet record that dated back to 2002 held by Elder.

Eight FHSD Schools Earn Energy Star Certification
Forest Hills School District has earned the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) ENERGY STAR certification for eight of its nine buildings. The rating signifies that each building performs in the top 25 percent of similar facilities nationwide for energy efficiency and meets strict energy efficiency performance levels set by the EPA.

Maddux Quilts From the Heart
Maddux Elementary School students presented 14 handmade quilts to Anderson Township Fire and Rescue during a recent ceremony at the school. The quilts will be distributed to local community members who are displaced during a fire, flood, or other type of emergency.
